Charlotte County VINELink Coverage
VINELink is the public interface for Virginia Jail VINE. The official Virginia VINE information says the service is free, anonymous, available around the clock, and deployed in all Virginia local and regional jails. Charlotte County Jail is therefore within the local-jail notification layer even though Sheriff J. Randy Grissom's website does not publish an inmate search or recent-release list.
Anyone may search or register for a person in local jail custody. The service is not a permanent archive. Its official materials support release, transfer, escape or return, and death notices, with some local differences. They do not promise that a completed release result will remain searchable for a set time. Registration before the event is the soundest way to preserve a timestamped alert.
VADOC custody follows a different path. The public VADOC Inmate & Supervisee Locator covers current state custody and community supervision, while eligible victim notice is handled through NAAVI. Jail VINE registration does not automatically become a VADOC registration. Federal BOP and USMS custody are not covered by Charlotte County Jail VINE.
Search Charlotte County VINELink Records
Begin with the correct jurisdiction and custodian. Charlotte County, Virginia can be confused with the Florida county of the same name. Note: Save the agency name and event wording because a transfer and a community release have very different meanings.

If the wording joins “released or transferred,” or if the case suggests another hold, ask Charlotte County Jail whether the person entered the community or moved to a named agency. - If the PIN is forgotten, call 1-800-467-4943 and press zero for help.
If a call is not answered, VINE may leave a message and retry until PIN confirmation or until 24 hours pass. That retry period concerns delivery of the call. It is not a promise that the person's public result will remain online for one day. Text, email, and in-app delivery should be checked against the options shown during the current registration.
Three Charlotte County Notification Systems
Virginia has a distinctive three-registration boundary. Local Jail VINE, VADOC NAAVI, and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry do not pass a registration from one system to the next. A person can also remain physically in a local jail while legal responsibility for time calculation shifts to VADOC after a qualifying sentence. Physical location alone does not settle which notice system applies.

The NAAVI portal can provide qualifying VADOC notices such as an advance or changed release date, actual release, transfer, parole action, and other listed events. VADOC says an actual release notice means the person is no longer in VADOC custody, after which those custody notices end. Local Jail VINE should still be used for the Charlotte County jail stage.
The Virginia registry is narrower. It can show an address, photograph, conviction information, and compliance data for a covered registrant. It is not a general release database. Absence from it says nothing about a person who has no registration duty.
Confirm Charlotte County VINE Alerts
Call Charlotte County Jail at 434-542-5141 after a local alert that does not make the destination clear. Provide the name and booking or case number when known. Ask whether Charlotte County custody ended, the date and time, the release classification or authority, and the receiving agency if the person was transferred.
